Firewood Storage Tips

  • Do Not Place Firewood On The Ground: Always keep firewood off the ground at an elevated place to allow proper airflow and prevent moisture buildup. Ensure the firewood is not placed indoors, too close to the house, or leaning against it, and keep it away from trees and shrubbery.
  • Inspect The Storage Area Properly: Before storing the firewood, and even after, ensure that the space is not cluttered and is bug and moisture free.
  • Stack It Correctly: Do not cram wood logs too closely together or toss them haphazardly. Stack the firewood properly in rows, leaving adequate space for air to circulate freely.
  • Cover The Woodpile: Use a tarp or plastic sheathing to cover the firewood to increase its lifespan and protect it from the elements. To ensure proper airflow, leave the sides open.
  • Burn The Oldest Wood First: The oldest logs are the most seasoned. Burning them first will help prevent pest infestations.
